Parque das Nações is the current designation of the former Expo area, which includes the Expo 1998 exhibition area as well as all areas under the administration of ParqueExpo, S.A. It has become a centre of cultural activities as well as a brand new city neighbourhood, with nearly 15,000 inhabitants.
Outstanding examples of this modern architecture are: The station “Gare do Oriente”by de Santiago Calatrava and the Portuguese Pavilion, by Álvaro Siza Vieira and Souto de Moura,.
Other places of reference are the Knowledge Pavilion, a modern Museum of science and technology with several interactive exhibitions; A cable car which overflies the park, offering an spectacular view over the Tagus river; the riverfront gardens; the nightlife quarter; the Atlantic Pavilion, an enormous dome pavilion which houses all kinds of events; the Vasco da Gama Tower, the highest in the city, measuring 145m and the fascinating Lisbon’s Oceanarium, an exciting live maritime museum.
