The river activities were the origin of the Alhos Vedros Town, once the center of the county.

As such, some of the most import historical heritage of this county is to be found here. For example,  the S. Lourenço Matriz Church, the Misericordia Church, the Pelourinho, the tidal mill and the Casa da Cova Morgado Palace. All to be seen along the riverfront, on the oldest part of the town.
