The landscape of this area amazes visitors by its vegetation and calm waters in which poplars, ashes, beeches and willows are reflected on the Tagus.

Sailing up the River one can find a pleasant countryside. The fishermen from Aveiro and Vieira de Leiria were attracted to this area because of the abundance of fish, creating several small settlements along the river. The “bateiras” and “saveiros” (traditional boats) can be seen in this area, easily related with the "avieiros", fishermen specialized in Shad fishing.

Here, the Tagus River provides a beautiful open-air stage for leisure and animation events. Some infrastructures and support equipments can also be found here, such as: Snack Park, Children and Sport’s Playgrounds and Endurance circuits.

When visiting Valada, don't miss their river beach, a pleasure in those warmer days.

Gastronomy

Don’t miss the gastronomic delicacies such as: eels’ stew and the “Torricado” (Grilled Salted Cod, with regional bread drowned on olive oil and garlic).

Valada’s River Jetty

Located in the peaceful village of Valada do Ribatejo, the recently built river jetty, just by the river beach, is usually crowded with resident boats. However, you can always moor here and just use your dingy to take you ashore. You can also count with a 20m/65 feet long berth, usually reserved to the “Varino Liberdade” (local traditional boat) which thanks to its skipper Mr. Luis Godinho, it may be released whenever visitors wish to visit or overnight in town by simply contacting him. There’s still a slipway, though not in its best condition.
