Located in the Natural Reserve of the Tagus Estuary, the town of Alcochete is among the most beautiful towns found along the river. Despite its proximity to Lisbon, it never lost the quaint layout of a typical fishing village. The village nautical mascot is the moliceiro "Alcatejo", a typical boat used to collect moliço (seagrass) and that now holds frequent tours to the Tagus estuary.
